Jessica Watts' response to: What effect has child support made on your life or the life of someone you know?

Child support has had a positive effect on my life and on my sister's life. It would have been hard for my mom to provide for us without the help of child support. Without it, we would have only been able to have the basics needs with no extras.

As young children, we were able to attend better day cares. These day cares allowed us to go on field trips, go to movies, go skating, go bowling, and to Emerald Pointe in the summer. These were enjoyable and memorable times for us.

We have been able to have nicer clothes because of child support. My mom wanted us to "be like the other kids". We haven't had designer clothing, but we haven't had to wear second‑hand clothes either. She has taught us to use money wisely by getting things on sale.

Also, we have been able to do extra‑curricular activities because of child support. I was able to take dance classes when I was younger. Since I've been in high school, I've been able to go to camps, such as the Mars Hill Leadership Camp. My sister took karate for several years when she was younger. She has been playing soccer since she was five years old. She has been playing on a traveling soccer team for the past three years also.

All of these things would not have been possible without the help of child support. We now have wonderful memories and experiences we can cherish because of it.

Dear Ms. Jackson:

Thank you and the NC Child Support Council for choosing me as the recipient of the Bob McGuire Scholarship this year. I greatly appreciate it. It will definitely help me financially.

Per your request, I have enclosed a picture of myself for the conference notebook. At the present time, I do plan on attending the conference on August 15.

Again, thank you so much for the scholarship award.

Sincerely,

thank you
